WORKSHOP INFO:
This exciting workshop will explore exercises for devising and improvisation on screen. Focus on developing a character and script with director Jesse Quinones (Waterloo Road, Inside No 9). Many projects are using the improvisation technique, including one of Jesse's next films - it's a liberating and fun process! Exercises will be recorded on a live feed, in real-world conditions.

BIO:
2024 saw Jesse return as Lead Director on BBC’s WATERLOO ROAD, where he was also Lead Director on their flagship return in 2022, seasons one and two. 2022 saw Jesse direct for season 8 of BBC's INSIDE NO 9. He is developing HEIST OF BENIN, a feature spec set up with Endurance Media with David Oyelowo attached to star. A dual national (US & UK) Writer/Director, Jesse's first feature film, CALLOUSED HANDS, starred Andre Royo (HBO's THE WIRE), Daisy Haggard (Showtime's EPISODES), and Hans Howes (THERE WILL BE BLOOD). It premiered at the Miami International Film Festival, and has gone on to screen in over 20 festivals around the world, garnering numerous awards. In 2020 Jesse wrote and directed his second feature film, CAGEFIGHTER which starred Gina Gershon and Chuck Liddell, which was released in select theaters in October, 2020 in the US and had a global release online. Jesse is a recent addition to Stars Collective, a US initiative run by Starlight Entertainment to support BIPOC filmmakers.

Jesse is a full member of BAFTA and Director's UK. Jesse is an alum of numerous writing labs and fellowships including the Royal Court Young Writer's Programme, Soho Theatre Writer's Attachment Programme, Berlinale Talent Campus, B3 Media Talent Lab, NALIP Latino Writer's Lab, and the BBC Writer's Room.

Claire Bleasdale, Casting Director

Claire trained as an actor at Manchester School of Theatre (1999 - 2002) and worked professionally in theatre, film, television, and radio before moving into casting.

She specialises in finding new talent through creative practices, as well as working with agents and groups to connect with their new and trusted talent. Claire includes street and workshop casting in her casting process. Building connections with incredible grassroots communities and groups to unearth fresh faces. Her work is grounded in finding authenticity and actors with an edge.

Claire cast the BAFTA winning film COWBOY DAVE and other award-winning shorts including REQUIEM, starring Bella Ramsey and Matthew Dunster’s directorial film debut JUDY, starring Maxine Peake.

In television she has cast five series of the Broadcast digital award and BAFTA nominated MEET THE RICHARDSONS.

Claire has cast five productions at Shakespeare North Playhouse, including the opening show MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM directed by Matthew Dunster and NOT TOO TAME and Philippa Gregory's RICHARD MY RICHARD.

MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP with Casting Director JIM ARNOLD!!

Workshop Details: For both Musical Theatre Actors and Actors who sing.An ‘Acting Through Song’ and ‘Audition Practice’ Workshop. Jim would like you to bring your own choice of song, cut to 1 - 1 and a half minutes. Your choice of song can be in any style (e.g. contemporary, pop/rock, legit etc.). There will be an accompanist available to play alongside you in the workshop. Jim will also lead a Q&A and discussion at the end of the workshop.

Bio: Jim is a freelance Casting Director of musicals and plays for West End and regional theatres, and for

UK and International tours. He established Jim Arnold Casting in 2018, having previously worked alongside many leading Casting Directors in TV, film and theatre. He was the Original Casting Associate for Matilda, the Musical at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon, and Associate Casting Director for Pippa Ailion Casting from 2012-2018. He is a full member of the Casting Director’s Guild of Great Britain and Ireland.

Casting Associate ALISON MURCHIE

Bio: Alison Murchie has been working in casting for over 12 years.

Alison’s casting credits include: casting for ‘WHEEL OF TIME’ (Amazon). And has worked on other series for Amazon Prime including (‘LORE’, ‘GREEK SALAD’), Netflix (‘THE LIBERATOR’) and Disney plus (still under wraps). 

Since 2016 she has been working for Nancy Bishop Casting where she is an Associate. Working almost exclusively in film and TV they have cast series for Netflix, Amazon, Disney +, as well as many independent films and blockbusters and won a CSA Award for their work on BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM and CDG Award for best comedy casting. 

Other film credits with Nancy Bishop Casting include ‘PRIZEFIGHTER’ with Russell Crowe and Ray Winstone.

Bio: Lucy is a Casting Director with a decade in the industry and has predominantly worked alongside Dixie Chassay. Lucy has frequently collaborated with director Yorgos Lanthimos, including on the Academy Award-winning THE FAVOURITE and subsequently on Lanthimos' upcoming features POOR THINGS , AND and most recently KINDS OF KINDNESS.

Additionally, Lucy has been Casting Associate on all three seasons of Hulu’s Emmy Award-winning series THE GREAT.

Other recent credits include PERSUASION (Dir. Carrie Cracknell) , HOUSE OF CLARENCE (Dir. Jaymes Samuel) and THE POD GENERATION (Dir. Sophie Barthes).

Casting Director NICCI TOPPING

Bio: NICCI TOPPING (CSA, CDA) has been a leading casting director in the UK for 25 years, casting over 50 films and TV series and delivering countless workshops and masterclasses across the industry  

Actors she has cast include Whoopi Goldberg, Evanna Lynch, Sophie McShera, Richard Ayoade, Tara Fitzgerald and Peter Firth, and she was involved in casting leading actors such as Olivia Cooke, Daisy Ridley and Robert James Collier at the start of their careers. 

She is a passionate exponent for education within the industry and has sat on boards in the UK and internationally at Cannes, the London Film Festival and the the BBC, amongst others, passing on her wealth of experience on industry craft.  She is the former chair of the CSA's committee in Europe and is active in helping shape the industry's push on Inclusion & Diversity. 

As an active educator delivers over 30 workshops a year working with many leading agencies.

Workshop Details: Nicci will lead an introduction on her career. And a discussion on what students think a Casting Director does; discussion on the casting process for film, tv, commercials, theatre, voice over, games, editorial. And a discussion on how to prepare for a casting and what to expect, how to curb audition nerves, dealing with rejection. Then Nicci will lead a mock casting session, where Nicci will provide all attendants the material for - which will involve looking at different scripts, looking at how a casting session might differ depending on the genre and careers advice. Nicci will also lead a Q & A session within the workshop.

TV Drama Director JUDITH DINE

BIO: I’m a regular director on CORONATION ST and CASUALTY for which in 2022 my Episode won a BAFTA and the ROSE D’OR award.

I’ve been continuously directing mainstream TV Drama for 28 years. 

I’ve directed hundreds of Episodes of EMMERDALE, HEARTBEAT and CORONATION STREET to name but a few. 

Other Recent credits include two series of the prime time drama KEEPING FAITH an original Welsh language, dark comedy ANFAMOL and I’m currently involved in developing two drama’s which will be announced soon! 

My ‘secret’ if you like, to acting for television, is to never be seen to be acting!  This is my main focus when I’m coaching students.

Workshop Details:

Judith leads a Full Day Screen Acting Workshop. Judith will focus on screen acting techniques, to give the actor a feel for what it's like to work on set with Judith Dine. You will receive sides tailored to you before the workshop to work on with Judith in the workshop. We will explore all the above through practical exercises, discussion and chance to ask Judith questions throughout the day.

Bio:

Emma initially trained and worked as an actor before turning her attention to casting in 2016. She began by working independently casting her own small projects and later assisting the great Carolyn McLeod on a variety of independent films and projects for Netflix.

In 2017 Emma moved to the in house casting department at the BBC where she worked until February 2024. During Emma’s time at the BBC Emma worked in casting across the main roster of shows.

Bio: Caitlin has been Casting Associate for Suzanne M. Smith (CSA, CDG) for over 7 years, recently working on ‘Silo’ (Apple TV) and this year has gone out on her own, starting her own casting office as Casting Director at Caitlin Joseph Casting.

Her other most recent credits include ‘Invasion’ (Apple TV), 'To Olivia' (Sky), ‘Carnival Row (Amazon), ‘Good Omens’ (BBC/Amazon), Season 4 of the Emmy-award winning ‘Outlander’ (STARZ), Season 2 of ‘Knightfall’ (A&E/History), ‘In From The Cold’ (Netflix) & ‘Warrior Nun’ (Netflix) as well as the much-anticipated TV adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling books ’Shadow & Bone’(Netflix). Caitlin is currently working on several exciting projects and has a passion for championing and working with actors, having come from an acting background herself.

Bio:
Elisa is a French casting assistant based in the UK working internationally for the offices of Nancy Bishop, Rachel Freck, and Sally McCleery Casting.

She works primarily in film and TV on a range of projects including BORAT: SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM (Amazon Studios), THE WHEEL OF TIME (Sony Pictures)YOUR CHRISTMAS OR MINE 2 (Mighty Pebble Pictures), TRYING (Apple TV+), THE MACHINE (Screen Gems), TOTEMS (Gaumont Television) and 5LBS OF PRESSURE (Lionsgate Films).

She also works as a casting director working on several short films, including SOUTH FACING, selected for the BFI London Film Festival, THE OTHER JULIE and GOLDEN HOUR. What she loves about casting is starting from a project breakdown to bringing characters to life.

TV/Film Director SEAN GLYNN

Bio:
Sean is an award-winning director, currently working on Hollyoaks where he has been a regular director since 2005.

He has been directing for 19 years and his work includes the Hope Street (BBC) as Lead Director, London Kills (BBC) as Lead Director, Holby City (BBC), Casualty (BBC), The Case (BBC), Hollyoaks Later (C4), Missing (BBC), Drop Dead Gorgeous (BBC), Dream Team (Sky One).

He has won awards for Best Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards and Most Spectacular Scene at the British Soap Awards.

He also has just finished his latest short film ‘SnapCatch’, about online grooming. This follows the critically acclaimed ‘LeadBelly’, which has just won ‘Most Influential Film’ at the Horsetooth International Film Festival in Colorado, amongst many other rosettes awarded.

He believes passionately in supporting and guiding actors in achieving the very best of their potential.


Workshop info:
Sean will be working from pre-delivered scripts, on ways to access and maintain levels of emotion for the camera. Using both technical and practical methods to deliver performances of a high emotional intensity the workshop will be supportive and collaborative. Participants will also explore the subtle differences in acting for the camera, as opposed to acting for the stage, with non-verbal and physical communication, playing with shot size and framing. Performances will be delivered to camera on a 'live' feed.

We will explore all elements of the screen acting process from the initial delivery of the script right through to the first and final take. Among many other aspects, this will include backstory, intention and obstacles. The day will be interactive, working together and experiencing the challenges of day to day filming on continuing television drama and film.

This workshop is designed to ensure you don't leave your best performance in the rehearsal, or in the read through but that you deliver it when it matters most. On screen, in front of the camera.
